Hand dyed (shibori) cottons in indigo ,whole cloth panels, hand quilted with sashiko stitches
Here are some of the major plant sources of indigo worldwide. From left to right, indigofera, isatis
or woad, strobilanthes and polygonum. In the center are small murex shells, source of an ancient
purplish blue dye. Oddly this animal dye and the plant indigo have a similar chemistry and provided
the only colorfast blues known into the 19th century.
