Indigo Festival & Symposium,

Sansia & Taipei, Taiwan

The historic Chinese city of Sansiawas known for its fabric dyeing and traditionally holds an indigo festival

that includes a street fair, where for a small fee, anyone can dye a cloth in shibori patterns. In 2005,

teachers were invited fromvarious countries to participate in a symposium, classes and an exhibit. The

workshops were held in an enormous elementary school with an art room that had more than a dozen

natural indigo vats. A fashion show showcased Taiwanese designers using indigo.
